What a weekend!

If anyone hasn’t noticed, it is very warm down here! Today the temp reach 101 degrees (not including the heat index). So guess whose air conditioning went out? OURS! It made for an interesting, and in the end, AWESOME weekend!
Saturday morning I got up early to go hit some yard sales with my old college friend Kara who was in town for her birthday. Saw some great stuff and I hit the Southern Living at Home jack pot!
008
The wine caddy was $1, Earrings: $.50, and the towel bars were an $1 each!
Once I got home for our excursion (and counting Twilight books) Keith informed me that we were headed to the hotel (the puppies had already been picked up by my parents). So we had a little staycation! I took some pictures of our room because it was AWESOME!

The place was totally Keith’s taste! I thought it was awesome, I can appreciate good design.
My parents came over today and Dad helped Keith in the yard and Mom helped me in the house!  Tonight was ate some yummy dinner with Candice and William for William’s birthday!  One AWESOME weekend!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a long weekend! But we did have some fun!

Saturday we headed to Lake Guntersville with the Ham family!

040

After playing on the Lake we ate at Top Of The River for Brian’s birthday. We brought home a TON of popcorn shrimp!

For more awesome shots of us playing on the Lake visit Iana’s blog!

Sunday we took Keith’s brother, Trey, to Atlanta so he could catch his plane to Paris! This picture does not even come close to capturing the way the city looks as you approach it.

011

We gave him hugs from everyone!

013

014

After that we headed to some of  our favorite places to visit in Atlanta. Keith went to the PGA Superstore and I went to Ballard’s Backroom. I’ll show you what I got in another post!

 044

Next stop, IKEA! I was in heaven, Keith was not. But he suffered through and I got some incredibly cheap curtains, which I will show you later.

045

Then on to H&M. It was my first time, and let me tell you, it is just as wonderful as I had heard! It was packed, but I managed to snag some cute clothes, and the prices are VERY reasonable.

046

Finally, we sat down for some of the best Mexican food in the WHOLE WORLD, La Parillia! It has been almost TWO YEARS since Keith and I have had cheese dip with jalapenos and Burrito La Parillia Steak. If you are lucky enough to live close to one (we had one in Newnan), please do not take this for granted. There is not a Mexican restaurant even close to being as good in Birmingham!

015

016

While at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Keith and I got misty-eyed watching all the service men and women returning for R&R. There are USO workers stationed giving gifts and applause as each solider departs from their plane. It gives you a lump in your throat and makes your heart swell with pride. No amount of applause could ever re-pay what these brave men and women have done for us, but it is so important for them to know the people back home care. Please check out the awesome things that  the USO of Georgia are doing.

Confessions of a Bargain Hunter: Winter Sales

February has been a banner month for bargain hunting!

Actually before Thanksgiving I picked up these:

002

YUP! For All Mankind’s for $50! This was my first pair of designer jeans, and yes,  I love them! I of course had to take them to be altered.

A couple of weekends back I needed to get some new work jeans ( did I ever mentioned how much I love my job?) So my mom and I went shopping @ the Gap Outlet near by. I got jeans there for $20 and $5.

That evening Keith and I went shopping and I thought I would take a chance and browse the designer jean sale rack @ Belk.

001

Jackpot! I got Joe’s for $43 and they are skinny jeans, that actually look good on me!

I also picked up this long sweater at Delia’s for $20 to pair with my new jeans!

002

And a local clothing store, Pants Store always runs an incredible February Sale! The entire store is 20% off. I got these cute Antelope clogs

001

And a pair of IT! corduroys for $17 with free alterations!

For the home I picked up a Full/Queen quilt set at Ross for $20! Once the guest bedroom is complete you can see it!

Unfortunately the weather and my Bronchitis and Sinusitis has really put a cramp in working on the house. I am SO ready for spring!

Confessions of a Bargain Hunter

So I have been struggling with updating my Fall/Winter wardrobe. I basically hated EVERYTHING  I had. So I went through it all to figure out what I could SELL to Plato’s Closet. Keith has some stuff going as well. Keith and I have separate closets at this house. I have the largest of the two closets. So here is how much room I’m working with:

004

It’s ok, don’t me afraid. The sweaters are in the armoire:

006

Yes, I have more things to clean out too! Oh! ANNND I share the floor space in my closet with Keith’s shoes.  Now do you see why we have the rule about getting rid of things before we buy more things.

Ok, so here’s the deal I made approximately $66.00 selling clothes and shoes between the two local Plato’s Closets. I still have stuff left that needs to go to the thrift store now.

Now, remember back in the summer when I was working on the perfect ensemble for a summer wedding? I promised myself if I found a cute clutch I would buy it. Well guess what they had at Plato’s?!

007

It’s big enough to hold my camera, phone, keys. PERFECTION! How much?

008

I also added a few new tops to the mix. You know I never buy anything unless it’s on clearance.

The printed and kelly green ruffle top both came from JCPenny’s! Never skip that place, they currently have buy one clearance item, get 50% off the second clearance item. Both shirts were on clearance!

Confessions of a Bargain Hunter...

It's been a while since I have gushed about the awesome deals I scored. I had a rainy Sunday to myself and had spent enough time with these faces:

So I donned my rain jacket and headed over to the Bama Flea Mall in Leeds, AL. I was on the hunt for a shabby chic lamp shade for a lamp I am currently transforming (check back when I complete that project). I walked the aisles at my leisure. I found a Scottie dog for my terrier collection for $6.

I personally thought he was a little expensive, but I could live with the price and I really liked him, so he went in my basket. I also found a vendor who sold Circle E candles. I bought these all the time in Florida and Georgia, but this the first time I found them here. Unfortunately they were out of our favorite scent. At least I know where to look. But NO LAMPSHADES! So I expanded my search to Trussville. None of the stores had what I was looking for (*tear, Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday. I know why, and respect them for that. BUT, I only want to eat Chick-fil-A and need to shop at Hobby Lobby on Sunday). I ducked in to CATO's and scooped up a couple of CUTE dresses. The black one is a strapless Maxi dress ($12) and the blue one is a simple v-neck dress good for church or HOT summer days ($14). No trip to Trussville is complete without a stop by Marvin's. You gotta get by there and take advantage of these awesome picture frames:

10 bucks for this size! They also have some awesome ladder shelves (just like the ones at Target) for only $59! Wish I had somewhere at this house to put a couple!

And since I am talking about Keith- I have to brag on him! Friday he brought me these gorgeous flowers home:

Confessions of a Bargin Hunter!

Keith claims that if you buy something on sale that you didn't need, you really didn't get a deal (Dave Ramsey says the same thing). But, Keith also buys things he needs- NOT ON SALE! *gasp! On the other hand- which happens to be mine- I rarely buy anything, even if I need it or not, not on sale. So for the month February, so far, I have run across quite a few deals.

Yellow Box shoes- $20 (Pants Store, Leeds location)

Born Loafers (for Keith)- $35 (Pants Store, Leeds location)

Rug - $20 (on clearance at T.J. Maxx)

The only thing I have not been able to find for a steal is a bookshelf for the office, which is about to go through a minor over haul. Living in 1,000 sq feet has its challenges. Sometimes I miss the spacious closets of the suburbs.
