YEAH!!!! We signed the lease on the cutest house today. There will be plenty of posts about each room once we move in. I actually need your advice about washing machines. We will need to buy a pair and, well, I have never bought my own washer and dryer. We have been given sets or just bought sets off other people. I get to pick out my very own. The only problem, this is a huge decision. I had visions of front loaders dancing in my head, till I found out the cons:
Apparently there is a lot of work involved in owning one of these. Dumping water reservoirs, wiping down the door seal, leaving the door open so they can dry out so you don’t get a moldy smell. It seems like a lot of things to “do” for a really expensive machine.
So, now I am looking at Energy Star rated top loaders (I am trying to prepare for the massive energy tax increase related to the Cap and Tax bill being rammed down our throats).
These are things we are looking for in our washer and dryer:
Washer- large enough for a king size comforter
Dryer- wrinkle guard, steam setting
We are looking closely at the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer.
SERIOUSLY! I didn’t know this would be such a big decision!
What kind of washer and dryer do you have? What do you think about them? Help Keith and I make a good decision!
I agree with you - that's a lot of work for a such an expensive dryer!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!! I wish that I had done my homework better when we bought ours a few years ago- it would be so nice if our king comforter would fit inside {rather than having to take it to be dry cleaned everytime one of the twins throws up on it!}
Can't wait to see the new house!!!
We have front loaders that came with our house. I apparently don't do the "work" because I didn't know you were supposed to do those things (but I haven't had any trouble either). We, as in I, use a Tide product that is designed to clean your front loading washer. I use it once a month on the speed cycle and it makes it all fresh inside. My biggest complaint about front loaders - I don't like how you pull stuff out of the front loader and then it goes to the dryer. My stuff always falls on the floor because its all tangled up with everything else so it pulls out the other stuff (compared to scooping it out of the top loader). So I think you should just buy what you want. If you are used to the top loaders anyway, then it won't be that big of a deal to stay with it.
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you guys! I am glad you are going to have more bathrooms (I assume)!!!
Congrats on the new house, Rachel! That is great! (Sorry but I know nothing about washing machine & dryers!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Wow that is a lot of work!! I am with you on the top-loading. Sheesh, I barely have time to transfer laundry to the dryer, let alone deal with water issues. I would be in a lot of trouble with a front-loading :) I can't WAIT to see pictures!!
ReplyDeleteLouis & I just recently purchased a front load washer and LOVE IT....but I do wipe the door out and leave open for a little bit...But we did look at the Cabrio you are looking at and liked it too...but heard a lot of bad things about WHIRLPOOL....So we chose not to purchase it.
ReplyDeleteThe Cabrio is the highest rated top loader by Consumer Reports for the past 2 years. I have read so many reviews my head is spinning!
